  • encourage healthy eating patterns

Binge Eating Disorders

Binge eating disorder (BED) is a serious illness characterised by loss of control and eating large quantities of food on a regular basis. BED is not about overindulgence – far from being pleasurable, binges are very distressing.

Often (though not always) binge eating disorder can cause weight gain, and can also lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and heart disease. As well as physical health problems you may find yourself facing low self-esteem, lack of confidence, depression and anxiety.

At Banbury Lodge we tailor our therapeutic programme to fit with your particular needs and goals. Banbury Lodge will provide you with a safe and confidential community in which you can explore and resolve your issues around binge eating.

Depression and Anxiety

Depression and anxiety drain your energy making it difficult to take the steps that will help you to feel better.

But while overcoming depression isn’t quick or easy, it’s far from impossible. It is true that you can’t just will yourself to get better, but nevertheless recovery is possible, even if your depression is stubbornly persistent.

Reaching out for help when you are experiencing depression and anxiety can be difficult and connecting with others, even family members, can feel impossible. Getting support and breaking the cycle of isolation is essential in overcoming depression.

At Banbury Lodge you can access therapy in a homely and therapeutic environment. We can offer you a tailored medical, therapeutic, and holistic programme to help you overcome your depression and anxiety. Personality Disorders

Personality disorders can be described as a collection of persistent unhelpful thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviours, which cause problems in your life. You may find it difficult to change these unwanted patterns by yourself.

At Banbury Lodge we offer various approaches for helping you recover, these include:

  • Medication: Medication can be used to help ease the symptoms of mental and emotional health issues. You will have the opportunity to see the doctor on your arrival and they can prescribe medication for you if that is appropriate.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):  CBT focuses on exploring, challenging, and changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviour.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT):  DBT offers a blend of acceptance and challenge whilst teaching effective emotional regulation skills. It was originally designed for those suffering with suicidal ideation and borderline personality disorders, but it is very effective for many different disorders. Much of its focus is on teaching effective and safe emotional regulation skills.
  • Motivational Interviewing: This approach is designed to enable you to gradually feel more capable of making positive changes your life.

This plan will include steps to take when you find yourself in triggering situations such as phoning a friend in recovery, attending a local support group, or calling us at Banbury Lodge. Your relapse prevention plan will help you to understand when you are becoming at risk. Through becoming mindful of your processes you can stop relapse in its tracks and choose a different path.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide treatment for dual-diagnosis?

It is quite common for people to come to rehab with multiple addictions. Research and experience has shown that there are strong links between substance use and problems with gambling, video gaming, disordered eating, addictive technology use, and compulsive sexual behaviour, to name a few.  There is a lot of overlap between addictions, mood disorders, eating disorders and with other co-occurring issues – the staff at Banbury Lodge are very much used to dealing with dual diagnosis.

Banbury Lodge is equipped with a team of experienced, dedicated, and expert staff including – counsellors, addiction counselors, psychotherapists, consulting psychiatrists and medical doctors. In addition to the clinical team there will also be support staff – some of whom may be in long term recovery themselves. We also have a range of coaches, and holistic practitioners. Rest assured that the staff at Banbury Lodge will be well equipped to help you.

How long do you stay in rehab for depression/anxiety?

Experts agree that the longer a person remains in treatment, the better the outcome. Programmes do vary in their length from 28 days to 90 days, or longer. Secondary care can last 18 months.

The most important thing to remember is that taking the time you need to get a solid foundation for your recovery is critical. If you leave treatment before you are ready you may be risking relapse which will mean you have to start all over again, or worse.

If possible it is usually recommended that people take a little extra time to insure their recovery. Residential rehab offers an integrative approach and a safe and nurturing environment in which to recover and learn necessary skills, there is so much to learn.

It is generally accepted by experts in the field that residential rehab for a period of 90 days is optimum for treatment. At Banbury Lodge we know that everyone is different but it is important to give yourself the time you need to heal and succeed in your recovery.

We treat eating disorders on the mental, physical and emotional level. This means that you will have access to a medical doctor, a psychologist, a dietician, and specialist counsellors, as well as holistic practitioners and a fitness instructor.
